I teach piano and voice to students of many ages, and have been doing so for decades. Our lessons are fun and stimulating, and although I’ve taught in formal academic environments, I take a relaxed approach that focuses very much on students’ enjoyment of music and learning. Students are encouraged to participate in the the choice of music they want to learn. In addition to technique and repertoire, there is a strong focus on music theory and ear training.
For piano lessons, I generally use the Piano Adventures series (Faber), supplementing with other repertoire and technique materials as deemed beneficial over time. Students need to have a piano (preferable) or keyboard at home for daily practice. I strongly recommend that children studying piano have an actual piano at home rather than a keyboard. There are almost always affordably-priced used pianos available in the area.
I will take young beginning piano students who are able to read.
During the pandemic, many students have done lessons on Zoom. Different, but still educationally valuable and worthwhile. As of early 2022, I am back to teaching in person, but if you prefer Zoom lessons I’m happy to accommodate you.
